Event Description

Hacktoberfest 2023 in Brussels is an event for anyone who is interested in Open Source. Whether you are an experienced developer, a student, or someone in an entirely different industry, we want to invite you to an evening where we will learn how to get initiated in open-source and hack together.

We will give a presentation about open-source and how to contribute to your favorite projects, and also give some examples based on Kairos a fully open-sourced project. Thereafter, we will have a few hours to hack together and help you get started with your first contribution, whether on Kairos or any other project of your preference.

Come hungry, we will have some pizza and beers to keep us going. (non-alcoholic drinks and vegetarian options will be available. If you have a special diet, please let us know to see if we can accommodate your needs)

The event will take place in the Ring Twice office in Brussels, Belgium. The address is Cantersteen 10, 1000 Bruxelles. The event will start at 18:00 and will end at 22:00 (see schedule for detailed info).

Bring your laptop if you want to get your hands dirty.

Our event is an inclusive and welcoming space for everyone, regardless of race, gender, ability, or any other characteristic. We celebrate diversity and embrace the richness it brings to the open-source community.

Seats are limited, so don't wait too long to RSVP!

If you have any questions, please reach out to [email protected] or

Who can attend?

Locations have different requirements for who can attend. This location is open to the following:

Schedule

  • 18:00 Welcome Let's share some food and drinks and get to know each other
  • 18:30 Contributing to Open-Source Software - Let's talk about why and how to open source. From using open-source software to contributing to your favorite projects; from open sourcing one of your personal/company projects to finding a job in open-source
  • 19:00 Mob open-source - Lets deep dive into Kairos, which is a fully open-sourced project, so you can get an idea of the different tools and methodologies used.
  • 19:30 Hacking Time Everyone is free to start doing some open-source in any way they prefer (hopefully the presentation will have given you all the necessary information). If you feel stuck, Mauro can provide some guidance on what to do strategically (he obviously doesn't know the tech internals of every project). If you have no idea what to work on, then let's just use the time to do some mob programming on some issue on Kairos
  • 22:00 End of event We have the space until this time, but you can, of course, leave sooner or go later to one of the nice bars in the area
